Cha Cha
Cha Cha is probably the most popular Latin dance in our club.
In many respects the Cha Cha reflects the Quickstep as the bright party dance of the Latin genre.
Cha Cha has quick staccato action, consisting of three quick steps followed by two slower steps; the primary feature of Cha Cha is a cheeky dance that enables the woman to move quickly and use her partner as a foil to exploit the rapid lively rhythm.
In our club this is danced by most couples and is often their introduction to Latin dance.
The basic cha cha cha and slower one two beats are easily learnt by the novice dancer and in a similar way to the quickstep enable them to gain confidence and enjoyment on the dance floor.
The Cha Cha was derived as an offshoot of the Mambo, this was because in Mambo music there is a distinct sound that people liked and tended to dance to. In time this was emphasized to produce a dance called the Triple Mambo that eventually progressed into what we now know as Cha Cha. The dance became popular in about 1954 so is a relatively modern dance.
