Jive picture 1Jive

Our Modern Jive is derived from the Jitterbug with influence from the Boogie, Rock & Roll and the American Swing. The dance is characterised by a bouncy movement using the balls of the feet and kicks and spins. Many dancers adapt their own interpretations of this dance and practice moves that they see and find attractive.Jive picture 2

Jive is great for the beginner as the basic steps can be learnt quickly, the jive is excellent to build up the stamina of dancers, and many of the more mature dancers can still out-jive their younger colleagues who have recently been introduced to dance! However, to watch a jive performed by high level amateur or professional dancers is breathtaking (literally).

Jive picture 3Because of the high energy levels required in the Jive it is always danced last in competitions. For our social dances we usually play two Jive tracks, this tests our dancers who usually rise to the occasion!
