Samba
Hot, exuberant, bouncy and moving; the Samba is danced to a strong 4/4 rhythm and counted in 2/4 time
This lively dance originates from Brazil , where there are many variations: Conga, Carnivale, Baion, Batucado, Carioca and Msemba the dances are the same basic form with adjustments to the tempo and variations. The Samba danced at Westland tends to move around the floor with a steady bounce. There are three steps to each two beats quick-quick slow. The general phrasing of the dance is in eight beats often counted as 1&2, 3&4, 5&6, 7&8.
Samba music played at our club is hot and spicy with strong beats and exotic Brazilian rhythms. Often there are solo drum sessions, carnival whistles, chanted chorus all danced and played to a strong 50 beats per minute.
