Viennese Waltz
Viennese Waltz
Generally there is at least one or two Viennese Waltzes played every evening. The Viennese Waltz can be traced back as far as the 12th and 13th Centuries. The dance originated in Bavaria where it was known as the Nachtanz (there is some debate that this is not true and that the dance originated in Paris in the early 12th Century). In common with the Ballroom Waltz the Viennese is danced to 3/4 time.
This is probably the most energetic of all the ballroom dances and is often a test of stamina for the dancers. The reward of the high level of energy is a dance that is beautiful to watch and delightful to dance.
Of course Vienna is famous for the Viennese Waltz and can boast 150 public halls with some 300 balls a year where a good percentage of the dances will focus on the Viennese Waltz; some balls can accommodate up to 5000 guests!
